Cologne Street Carnival 2027

The "fifth season" transforms the city into a massive folk festival celebrating age-old traditions. The 2027 theme is "Morje es, wat do drus mähs!" (Tomorrow is what you make of it!). While the session officially begins on November 11, 2026, the main street carnival spans six crazy days from Weiberfastnacht to Violet Tuesday.

Principais Eventos e Categorias

  • Weiberfastnacht (Women's Carnival): The street carnival officially starts on Thursday at 11:11 a.m. Features key handovers in neighborhoods, tie-cutting traditions, and the first parade in the old town.
  • Carnival Friday & Saturday: Local association parades converge in the city center. Saturday features the "Funkenbiwak" open-air session on Neumarkt and various neighborhood parades (Veedelszüge).
  • Geisterzug (Ghost Parade): An alternative, spontaneous parade with political overtones held on the Saturday evening before Carnival.
  • Rose Monday Parade: The climax of the festival. One of the largest parades in Germany, featuring floats, foot groups, dance groups, and music bands. Over 300 tonnes of sweets and 300,000 flowers are thrown to over a million spectators.
  • Violet Tuesday: The final day features large neighborhood parades and the traditional burning of the "Nubbel," a straw-filled scapegoat figure, at pubs to atone for carnival excesses.
